JANUARY: 5 THINGS TO TRY THIS MONTH

JANUARY THEME

FITNESS, FUN & FRIENDSHIP

Happy New Year!

Just in case you're new around here, on the first day of each month I release a new theme designed to help you stay motivated and inspired to keep going for your health and fitness goals. This month we're all about:

 FITNESS, FUN & FRIENDSHIPS

As we move into another new year it's natural to think about how we want our lives to look and what we want to achieve (I wonder if I can become a professional ballet dancer at 35?) which is why I absolutely love this Jim Rohn video because it reminds us not to get lost in self doubt or caught up in resistance but to challenge ourselves to see what's possible and ask such a simple but powerful question -- why not.

I love hearing your stories so let me know in the comments below this post what January's theme means to you.

5 THINGS TO TRY THIS MONTH

FOCUS ON A FITNESS EVENT AND CREATE YOUR GAME-PLAN

Having a fitness event to focus on will make the workout's worth it. What do you need to focus on this month? What steps to you need to take to reach your health and fitness goals? Prioritise your goals, get past the overwhelm and get focused -- make sure you come back here again on the 2nd of January for a new blog post covering exactly how you can put this into action, I've done all the research for you :)

WATCH AN INSPIRING DOCUMENTARY

If you're in a place where you're health and fitness goals feel unobtainable or need a little inspiration then seek out those who've gone before you. This is such a powerful activity because your subconscious will shift gears allowing your conscious mind to follow suit and all of a sudden the impossible becomes possible. I'm completely biased because Natalia Cohen is a personal friend but her post Pacific row documentary, Loosing Sight Of Shore is well worth a watch.

TRY A NEW WORKOUT WITH A FRIEND

I haven't told my friends yet but I'm mad keen to try a ballet class for adults! When I say workout, It could be anything from a rock climbing session to a kite surfing class — or ballet for grown-ups, just pick something that gets you moving and make sure you break a sweat.

USE THE POST IT NOTE FIRED-UP-FOR-FITNESS TRICK

The what Emma? Do this; work out, hike, bike, run, do some yoga - whatever tickles your fancy and after you finish, grab a post it note while all those beautiful mood-boosting endorphins are rushing around your system, in three words write down how you feel, my last 3 words were strong, bold and focused then stick the post it note somewhere you can see it, like right on top of your workout clothes so you can see how good you feel for having exercised.

PLAN A FRIENDS DAY OUT AROUND MOVEMENT

It's such a simple concept but when was the last time you did it? I've found the best way to get inspiration is to google it. You can search for; active experiences in {your location}, fun {winter} activities in {your location} and seeing as it's January, rainy day activity ideas in {your location}. Have fun with this, it's more about spending time with friends and having a micro-adventure than hardcore fitness.
