HOW TO GET FIT FOR YOUR SUMMER ADVENTURES
Summer is just around the corner and there are adventures to be had but let's be honest, we all question our fitness levels from time to time (I have a tendency to be very bendy with zero cardio). Without support and motivation it's easy to let that doubt hold you back back from doing the things you want to but with some proper planning you'll be adventuring your way through the summer.

5 THINGS TO TRY THIS MONTH
DO THE THING YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO!
You've got a whole summer ahead of you, what are you going to do with it, what adventures are you going to have?
Give yourself the time and space one day this month to think about the one thing you've always wanted to do then try writing down the step you need to take to make it happen. I promise you you’ll feel fantastic, your energy will shift and you’ll move forward with the rest of the steps faster than ever and make what’s possible for you actually happen!
SET A PRE-TRIP EXERCISE SCHEDULE
Exercise is not about beating your body into submission, it's about moving it in a way that feels good. If you're not sure what that is for you think back to when you were a kid, what did you like doing? Biking, climbing, swimming? Cast your mind back to a time when you equated moving your body with fun and start doing that again in your adult life.
If you've got a big adventure planned and know you need to get fit for it then aim on starting to get fit (or fitter) at least 12 weeks in advance, set a weekly schedule and stick to it. If you feel like you need help and support to make that happen then I would love to talk to you.
TAKE A COOKING CLASS
If you're looking to get fit and healthy this year then get cooking! There are so many benefits of learning or improving your kitchen-know-how; you'll get to have better, more nourishing, more satisfying meals at home, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment, you'll connect with others and re-connect to your senses. Whether you're starting from scratch, or you're an accomplished cook, taking a professional cooking class is a great winter activity -- get googling 'healthy cooking classes near me' and see what comes up.
OUTWEIGH NEGATIVITY WITH SIMPLE MINDSET SHIFTS
You've decided on your adventure, you're determined to get fit and then...the doubt and negativity creeps in, it happens to the best of us!
Having a basic understanding of your physiology will almost always improve your physical health and the same goes for your mental health, having a basic understanding of how and why you make certain decisions will allow you to course correct when necessary.
International speaker and author Mel Robbins teaches The 5 Second Rule:
"The moment you feel yourself hesitate (when you know you should do something) start counting backward 5-4-3-2-1, then GO. The Rule is a proven, form of metacognition. When you use it, you shift mental gears, interrupt your habit of overthinking and awaken your pre-frontal cortex – making change easy. The rule acts as a “starting ritual” that breaks bad habits and triggers positive new behaviour change".
LEARN A NEW SKILL
The summer is a great time to explore local trails but when it comes to outdoor adventure, safety comes first. Learning the basics in map reading for example will give you the confidence to get outside and may even lead to bigger adventures! Have a look and see if there are any outdoor courses in your area.
