EPISODE 007: THE DO'S & DON'TS OF HEALTHY SKIN
So why is skin care so important?
Besides holding our bodies together (pretty important), biologically it's our first line of defence, every drop of rain, ray of sun shine or common pollutant like exhaust fumes, hits our skin first.
Here's the good news — like every other part of our bodies, skin responds to care and attention, proper treatment can revitalize the skin and keep it looking healthier for longer.
True health, on may levels begins from the inside out and in this week's podcast episode, you'll learn 3 simple tips that will help you have healthy looking skin even in the middle of winter!
Let's get going!
Skin care doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. To help you get started, here's a free printable worksheet with a super simple chocolate and avocado exfoliating face-mask recipe from Lucy, we hope you love it :) Download it here.
(If you're already on my mailing list then check your inbox as the weekly email I send out already has the worksheet link in it.)
A couple of years ago I rode my motorcycle from Guatemala City to New York City, just over eight thousand miles, it was, for the lack of a better description, epic.
Geographically, the change in environment was also epic and on a daily basis I found myself having to get the mud / sweat / dust (not a pretty visual but the reality of long term travel isn't glamorous, it's more gritty...in a good way) out of my skin, this was my abrupt but necessary introduction to skincare, specifically exfoliators!
Enter Lucy Ashman and her passion for pods and petals — having grown up in Belize, Lucy's interest in all things botanical was nurtured from a young age, combine that with a chance meeting in her friends bathroom in the UK where she spotted homemade soap and later, a move to Guatemala and her all natural, skin and haircare company, Tierra & Lava was born!

#2 TOP TAKEAWAYS
Lucy's top 3 tips for healthy skin from the inside out:
Protect against the environment. Dark coco powder contains properties which are known to repair sun damage so seek out products that contain cacao.
Look after your skin on a daily basis. Cleanse, moisturise and exfoliate and remember to K.I.S.S — keep it super simple in regards to what you're using on your skin and look for products which lock in moisture (macadamia oil, papaya, avocado and oats are all great for this).
Eat well and drink plenty of water. Focus on eating whole unprocessed foods and and carry a water bottle with you at all times!
What’s something that we should know about how to have healthy skin, something we won’t be able to find online or in a book?
Inside and out, your skin is your largest organ and when things are not right or balanced inside your body, this shows up on your skin, so you need to look after it from the inside out.
This is particularly true of sensitive skin which in many cases is a result of the cumulative effects of what you put on your skin and what you eat (or don’t eat).
Always use skincare products natural enough that if you do eat them, they're not going to do you any harm!
